James Martin, 43 years old, recently moved to Tucson and is the Director of Operations for the Topgolf here in our community. He is a Board Member of the Boys and Girls Club and employees 300 people in the Tucson-Marana area.
Before joining Topgolf James spent the last 10 years at Fleming’s Prime Steak House & Wine Bar. He began in 2008 as an Operating Partner of the St. Louis Missouri location. Starting at the height of the recession, James rebuilt his management team and focused on the basics of creating great Guest and Associate experiences, and in doing so increased revenues and profits to record levels year over year and earning five consecutive Partner of the Year awards and the Legacy Award. James was promoted to Joint Venture Partner in 2015 overseeing the Mountain West and ultimately leading 8 restaurants in the Central Region to the best profit percentages in the Company.
Born in New Orleans and raised in St. Louis, James attended Missouri State University in Springfield. Before joining Fleming’s, James was the Operating Partner at Finale Music & Dining in Clayton, Facilities & Sales Manager at Brio Tuscan Grille and General Manager at Joseph’s Italian Café/JoJo’s Jazz Club, all in St. Louis. James and his wife Elinore, a St. Louis native, have two beautiful daughters—Kylie (8) and Mackenzie (5). Elinore is also a veteran of the restaurant business having managed several restaurants. Most recently Elinore was the sales representative for a local Missouri winery.
In James’ free time he most enjoys spending time with his family. They love snow skiing, golf, biking, and travel. When asked his eight-year-old said her dad’s favorite activity is “grilling steak”. James always loves to throw and host a great party and culinary extravaganza for family and friends. With the majority of James’ family from the Netherlands, he was the first of his siblings to be born in the States. One favorite European memory is being in Madrid the night they won the World Cup in 2010.
