Been to “Old Tucson” lately? No longer just a popular western movie set and replica of Tucson in the 1860s, it also hosts the Arizona Sonora Western Heritage Foundation. Re-live the rich history and culture reflected at Old Tucson, and learn how it is affecting the future development of this very unique theme park. See how Old Tucson welcomes the Native American heritage as an important component to the Old Pueblo’s history. And meet Joe Camarillo, critically acclaimed as “the guy who knows absolutely everything about Old Tucson and the area – an amazing man and historian.”

A Native of Ajo, Arizona, Joe attended the University of Arizona and in 1978 entered the hospitality world working in various hotels in Tucson, Scottsdale, and the White Mountains of Arizona.

Realizing the fascination people had with Arizona’s history and culture, he began to put packages together for tourists to learn more about our area.

In March/2010, Joe joined the team at Old Tucson promoting special events as well as the culture of southern Arizona. While working at Old Tucson, he was named Community Outreach & Special Projects Manager for the Arizona Sonora Western Heritage Foundation, established in 2013.

His main responsibilities included the establishment of cultural and historically-based partnerships for the foundation. This included special events, festivals and educational programs developed by the ASWHF at Old Tucson.
