We hear a lot about balancing Covid restrictions against business reopenings these days. But a major part of Tucson’s economy has always centered on balancing environmental protections against the value of resource development. With the pandemic taking over the headlines, we haven’t heard much about the Rosemont Copper Mine Project lately.

Jerry Bustamante is the Community Relations Manager for Hudbay Minerals, parent company of the Rosemont Copper Project. Jerry is responsible for managing Hudbay’s community outreach and communications activities related to the Rosemont Project. He joined Hudbay shortly after it acquired the Rosemont Copper Project in August 2014. Jerry has over 20 years of professional business, management, and public relations experience spending the majority of his career as a chamber of commerce executive where he previously served as the President/CEO of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. As a Chamber of Commerce Executive, Jerry spent many years as a registered lobbyist supporting pro-business issues, legislation and candidates at all levels of government. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Originally from the state of Sonora, Mexico, Jerry grew up in Tucson, has lived in Arizona most of his life, and is a proud Alumnus of the University of Arizona.
