Phil Silvers’ presentation will celebrate 100 Years of Rotary in Southern Arizona. It will focus on those Rotary leaders who were the “breakthrough” people, who brought us to places (good places) we had not been before. Phil will show how Rotarians from the Tucson Catalina Club were very prominent in the history of District 5500.

Phil Silvers was born and raised in Duluth MN where, unknown to Phil until a year ago, his grandfather, FX Farrell, was inducted into the Duluth 25 Rotary Club in 1914. Phil joined the Rotary Club of Tucson in 1986, later moved to the Tucson Sunrise Club, and ended up in Green Valley’s Valle Verde Club. He was elected District 5500 District Governor 1999-2000; served as Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for 3 years; and was elected to the RI Board of Directors 2008-10. On the Board, he chaired the Administration committee, was Moderator for the orientation of new board members, and was the Board’s liaison to the Foundation Trustees. Phil chaired the TRF Cadre of Technical Advisors for 3 years.
He started two Rotary Clubs in the Russian Far East: the Rotary Club of Ramallah, Palestine (the first-ever club in an occupied territory), and the Rotary Club of South Tucson Kino. He currently works with 9 African countries, India, and Bangladesh as the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator for Rotary Family Health Days (providing free health camps for people of poverty).
