A big issue in this week’s election was affordable healthcare. It’s been a big issue (like THE issue) for the El Rio Community Healthcare Center for nearly 50 years. Now they offer fully integrated care. What’s that, and how do they do it? Dr. Rogelio Samorano will be with us Friday to bring us up to date on El Rio and all their great work.

Dr. Samorano earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Stanford University. As a resident in the University of California, San Diego Combined Program – Family Medicine-Psychiatry Residency he established himself as a leader at the interface between primary care and psychiatry and is fueled by a social conscience which is as contagious as it is admirable.

Upon graduating from the combined program, Dr. Samorano joined the faculty of the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine Dept. of Family & Preventative Medicine and Psychiatry as the lead physician in the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program and also cared for patients on the Mobile Health Clinic (MHC) as part of a Healthcare for the Homeless Initiative.

Just prior to coming to El Rio, Dr. Samorano served as a physician at Escondido Community Neighborhood Healthcare providing mental health services and primary care to the underserved populations of Northern San Diego County.

Dr. Samorano is a Tucson native, and is fully bilingual. He has developed El Rio’s Specialty Behavioral Health program into one of El Rio’s centers of excellence.
