Rotary District 5500 Governor Bruce Monro has been a Rotarian for 13 years, all of it with the Tubac, AZ Rotary Club. Tubac is a community of less than 2000 people, yet the Tubac Club has over 35 members. He has served two terms as club President, as club membership committee chair, and as the club foundation chair. He just completed three years as District Membership Chair and Assistant Governor in three separate regions in the District. He is District 5500 Governor for 2025-26.

Before Bruce became a Rotarian, a co-worker told him about a community shoe distribution project that needed volunteers. He helped give out over 1000 pairs of shoes that day. It wasn’t until he was invited to a Rotary Club meeting some months later that he realized that many of the people volunteering at the shoe drive were Rotarians. That motivated him to join the Tubac Club. With the club, he has been involved with many projects including leading a multi-club winter jacket distribution project and initiating Rotary sponsorship for cleft palate surgeries in Hermosillo, Mexico. He led a team that started the new club in Sahuarita, AZ.

Bruce is a Paul Harris Society member, major donor and Polio Plus member.

Bruce is an industrial engineer who has worked for IBM, Honeywell and Raytheon. In his career, he has helped design and manage the construction of two new factories and improved the operations of numerous others. He has an Industrial Engineering degree from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree from the University of Arizona.
Though the people aspect of any organization is most important, Bruce believes that if you can measure something, you can describe it. If you can describe it, you can understand it. And, if you understand it, you can improve it. The data provides the direction for people to take action. After all, Rotarians are “People of Action.”

Bruce and his wife Cindy like traveling to Wyoming to enjoy family, the weather and fishing.
